Out of Our Bloomin’ Minds! Meet Carol and Allan
Carol, a lifelong gardener, has transformed many a home lawn into a gorgeous oasis of flowers, trees and shrubs that support birds and pollinators alike with habitat, water and food. But Carol’s real delight is the joy her garden creations bring friends and neighbors who are always invited to walk and ponder the special little things a garden harbors, like a bee sleeping in a dahlia or a tree frog camping out in dense leaves of a perennial. Carol’s amazing husband, Allan, can build anything and never says no to a purchase of hundreds of hellebores, a glorious winter blooming perennial Carol discovered when they moved to the Pacific North West.
Since moving to lovely Orcas Island, together, Carol and Allan have shaped three acres of fallow hay, into The Little Farm on Olga Road. Now, locals and tourists alike visit the Little Farm’s Nursery to learn plant design and growing techniques from Carol and her team, while choosing special plants for their gardens. Carol’s carefully curated Bee Safe perennials and annuals arrive weekly starting March 1st through October. Visitors can tour the flower farm, U-Pick their own bouquets and enjoy a glass of wine during a Snip n’ Sip or while taking a class to learn bouquet making techniques.
